I. Responsibilities of the Avalanche Warning Service
- Maintaining a measurement and observation network representative of all areas for the entire state of Vorarlberg
- Recording avalanche-relevant weather and snow data
- Survey flights and land patrols to record the current snow and avalanche situation
- Creating and distributing a cross-regional avalanche status report
- Advising the relevant body for the state, communities, district administration office and local avalanche commissions, as well as any other utility provider of temporary avalanche protection measures
- Training observers and organising/supervising basic and advanced training of avalanche commission members
- Publicity work in the form of reports, interviews, involvement in panel discussions for the media and giving lectures to rescue organisations and alpine associations
- Generating certificates and reports for courts, insurance, planning offices, tourist organisations etc. and involvement in court proceedings and other events held by these organisations.
- Providing information to insurance companies, planning offices, students etc.
II. Responsibilities of the local avalanche commissions
- Assessment of local avalanche hazard based on local observations of avalanche-relevant weather and snow developments, as well as the avalanche status report.
- Advising people responsible for temporary safety measures locally to minimise risk in the event of acute avalanche hazard.
