In the design of the Vorarlberg logo in 1997, particular care was taken that it would be able to fulfil the various requirements for use by all organs of the State of Vorarlberg (State Parliament with all its departments and State administration offices) in the long term. A number of surveys of the population and the civil service accompanied the development of the logo. The aim was the compact, evocative and unmistakeable implementation of the brand "State of Vorarlberg".
The result is a simple, straightforward and easily recognisable logo which represents the "State of Vorarlberg" in a pleasant, friendly manner. By allowing the flexible application of text, the logo can be adapted to suit the various application areas. Due to the graphic constant, it is always readily attributable to the brand "State of Vorarlberg".
An elliptical arc with tapering ends was added to the two elements of the State coat of arms and the name Vorarlberg. This links the two elements and lends a very balanced impression to the brand "State of Vorarlberg". It also creates space for variable claims (e.g. "our State").
