Outstanding sporting achievements which arouse supraregional interest have been awarded the Medal for Sporting Achievement since 1968.
The State Government of Vorarlberg is responsible for the awards.
The Medal for Sporting Achievement is granted on two levels, whereby consideration is given to the degree of sporting achievement:

Description and wear
The Medal for Sporting Achievement is moulded from tombac and consists of a 45 x 37 mm laurel wreath merging into simple lines in the upper third. The upper half of the wreath bears the coat of arms of Vorarlberg. Below this there is a 5 x 24 mm red-white bar with the inscription "For sporting achievement". In the gold medal, the laurel wreath, the lines and the inscription are gold-plated. In the silver medal they are silver-plated. The Medal for Sporting Achievement is worn on the left side of the breast on a clip. Persons holding the medal are entitled to wear it in miniature. The Medal for Sporting Achievement can also be worn on sport clothing in a fabric version.
