Global Marshall Plan (GMP)

The objective is to create an improved global regulatory framework, sustainable development, to overcome poverty, to protect the environment, fairness and, consequently, a new global economic miracle.

In particular, the Global Marshall Plan embraces the following five core aims:

  • realisation of the internationally agreed millennium development goals of the UN
  • application of an additional $100 bn per year for development cooperation
  • additional financing through the charging of international transactions and the use of resources
  • Global Governance – development of a regulatory framework for the global economy
  • sustainable and not catch-up development – for fair development policy

Origin of the initiative
In 2003, prominent representatives from the scientific community, politics, the media, culture, business and NGOs – following the historic Marshall plan after the Second World War and Al Gore’s neologism from the 1990’s – were called upon to form a sustainable and just globalisation through the "Global Marshall Plan for a global eco-social market economy".

Global Marshall Plan in Vorarlberg
In a proposal backed by all four parties represented in Vorarlberg’s parliament, the state parliament decided on 10th May 2006 to support the GMP-Initiative and increase awareness of the programme in Vorarlberg through informative events and the promotion of existing activities, initiatives and structures in the state.

The Office for Future-Related Issues has assumed the task of linking and supporting the agents engaged in the area of GMP in Vorarlberg so that these organisations can communicate the topic of the GMP using a framework of informative events to a broader public.
