Projects for the "electrification of agriculture" are aimed at connecting farms and other rural businesses to the public power supply network or ensuring the power supply with the aid of renewable energy sources. Where people are resident the whole year round, electricity supply is a matter of course. But in very remote areas the connection to the public supply network is not always possible or affordable. A reliable power supply is, however, often a precondition of fulfilling milk hygiene regulations. Photovoltaic systems and mini hydroelectric power systems offer alternatives particularly for young stock pastures with low power consumption.
