The annual growth of timber amounts to 6.6 cubic meters per hectare. This means that twice as much wood is grown in Vorarlberg as is used. This gives us a high reserve of useable timber but over-aging is also a natural consequence. Almost one fifth of our trees are older than 140 years. Rejuvenation of the forest is thus very important. Where natural rejuvenation is not sufficient, the state forestry commission in Rankweil supplies suitable plants grown from local seeds.
